The treasures of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom are numerous in quantity, but few can compare to what lies hidden in a secret cave nestled within the looming shadow of Death Mountain. Of course, getting it is not a superbly easy task, but for the prize at the end, it's a surprisingly straightforward adventure that rewards the curious.
Naturally, you'll need to make sure you're all stocked in your normal adventuring gear, but what you'll really need is one good boulder-breaker and a sense of direction to find this one-of-a-kind treasure.
How To Complete The Treasure At The Lizard Lakes
To start this quest, you must first complete the Fire Temple and gain Yunobo's oath as a Sage of Fire. With the Regional Phenomenon of Eldin completed you'll be able to speak to and interact with the denizens of Goron City normally.
Travel to Goron City and speak with the village elder, Bludo, at the center of town. He'll tell you about a Goron treasure on the north side of Death Mountain you can try to find.
It is possible to find and take the treasure of Death Mountain without accepting this quest and before completing the Regional Phenomena main quest. As such, it can be a free flame-retardant helmet to save you 1,400 rupees at the Goron City shop and not a bad time investment for those looking to save their wallet.
Your goal is to find the cave known as "Lizard's Burrow." In line with the hint, it is located on the cliff directly in the center of the space between the lizards' heads. There are several ways to reach it.
If you've already done the Bring Peace Quests or ventured to North Eldin for another reason, you can start from the Sibajitak Shrine. Otherwise, you can come from:
- Northern Akkala via the north side of the map and across the hot springs.
- Goron City via rail cart.
If you're coming via rail cart, you'll need to take the right cart path and jump off to the right at the halfway point shortly after passing the Isisim Shrine area. From that point, you'll need to continue traveling east to your destination.
If you're coming via Sibajitak Shrine, you'll only need to travel south and take a right up the ledge path past the Monster-Control-Crew camp and Monster Den.
From the western Goron City route, you'll need to keep your head on a swivel for the horde of bokoblins led by a Boss Bokoblin patrolling the area. Although only Blue Bokoblins, they can pose a threat with their numbers (especially without Riju's power).
The Lizard's Den is just west of Lake Darman's Monster Den and east of a slumbering Stalnox (which you must fight if you come through his area during the night) and tucked into the Death Mountain cliffside.
The entrance can be easy to miss as it has no striking visual indicators other than a pile of breakable rocks. Break them with either bombs or Yunobo's special move, or any similar method.
Enter the cavern, and you'll discover a chest on the far side of the cave. It's unguarded, so don't shy away from opening it straight away.
Inside will be the Vah Rudania Divine Helm. It protects against fire in the same way the Flame Breaker Armor, and in exchange for one point in defenses, Yunobo will also wear the Sage-version of this helm whenever you have it equipped.
If you'd like an extra Bubbul Gem, there is a Bubbul Frog hidden behind a breakable wall. As you turn from opening the chest, look to the hallway toward the entrance. To the right and slightly up are the breakable boulders you can destroy to reveal the frog. Climb up to defeat the frog and take its gem as an added treasure bonus.
