Rare stones are a requirement in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom for the adventurer looking to upgrade their equipment and make a decent income, and none are as valuable as the illustrious Diamond. As rare as they come, you'll want to make sure you get your hands on as many as possible to grow your defenses and your wallet.

RELATED: Of course, you could always go the cheap way to grab one and duplicate as many Diamonds as you'd like, but whether you're looking for just the one to get started or going the honorable route, you'll have a plethora of options on how you get your hands on Hyrule's rarest gemstone.

Completing Shrines

Link Receives Diamond Reward From Jochi-Ihiga Shrine

Sometimes, you'll receive a Diamond as a reward from chests inside shrines. Although rare finds in the general scheme of shrines, they are guaranteed gifts to at least get you started. The following shrines each have a confirmed Diamond:

  • Sihajog Shrine - South Lanayru Sky Archipelago
  • Ganos Shrine - Tabantha Sky Archipelago
  • Jochi-Ihiga Shrine - Akkala Falls, Akkala Highlands
  • Yomizuk Shrine - Lodrum Headland, Lanayru
  • Maoikes Shrine - Near Bone Pond East Cave, Lanayru Wetlands
  • Mayaotaki Shrine - North Lomei Labyrinth, North Tabantha Snowfield
  • Momosik Shrine - Northeast side of Death Mountain, Eldin Canyon

Dondons

Link Picks Up Ruby From Dondons By Lake Floria

Within the tropical area around Lake Floria, there is a camp of special creatures on the western bank north of Lakeside Stable. These creatures are known as Dondons, and feeding them a Luminous Stone may grant you the chance at a Diamond (though they may also gift Rubies or other such gemstones).

There is no known wait time for the Luminous Stone conversion (most estimates and tests reveal this to be somewhere around the 15-minute mark in real time), but it isn't a quick method. You can make the most of this method by feeding each of the five Dondons and coming back after a long period of adventuring.

Purchasing From Goron City

Link Buys Diamond From The Goron City Shop

Although this likely isn't something you'd normally want to do (since Diamonds are generally sold for profit), you might want to get your hands on a quick diamond for either your equipment or to start an item duplication chain.

Whatever your reason, you can find Diamonds for sale from a merchant in Goron City. Near the center of town, you can find this shop merchant near the bridge selling three Diamonds for 1,000 rupees each.

Ore Deposits

Link Breaks Ore Deposit And Finds A Diamond

Although much rarer and one of the least reliable methods to farm Diamonds, you can find these rare gems by breaking ore deposits in any part of Hyrule. Ore deposits that are most likely to drop diamonds are those that have either a white or yellow sparkle around them, but breaking them still isn't a guarantee you'll get a diamond.

The best places for farming using this method are generally around the Eldin region with its numerous caves and ore deposits. The monster den near the lizard lakes (Lake Darman) is a good place to farm, allowing you to multitask your diamond-farming journey while defeating monsters and earning rupees for your efforts.

Some other recommended caves include:

  • Whistling Hill Cave, Hyrule Field
  • Gisa Crater Cave, Hebra Mountains
  • Sahasra Slope Cave, West Necluda

Stone Talus

Breath of the Wild - Stone Talus

Within the Depths are numerous strong enemies that give rewards equal to the challenge they present. Among those are the Stone Talus.

Although defeating them isn't a guarantee for Diamonds, necessarily, they do always drop some form of rare material, making them well-worth the challenge. Generally, the more difficult and beefy these stocky stones are, the more valuable the resources you'll likely find. Therefore, even though Stone Talus can be found in several areas above ground, the strong Talus in the Depths are the most likely to reward your efforts with a Diamond.

The elemental type of a Stone Talus does not seem to effect the Diamond rate drops except in Talus noted as "Luminous Talus," in which case Diamonds were not noted to drop on any occasion (but still may be possible as an extremely rare drop).

Late-Content Rewards

Master Kohga caught off guard In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom the video game

Within treasure chests in late-game content are Diamonds that are given as a reward. Although these chests are rare and often difficult to reach, they offer an opportunity to gain Diamonds along your later journey when armor-upgrading is sorely needed.

These are just a few of the known reward chests with Diamonds:

  • Hyrule Castle Observation Room
  • Hebra Mine (Depths) - Reward for defeating Master Kohga
  • Tarm Point Cave
  • Bond Pond East Cave
